El Muertorider arrives at the Museum
Oakland Museum of California Celebrates Dìas de los Muertos!

El Muertorider, a 1968 Chevy Impala customized by artists Artemio Rodriguez, John Jota Leaños, and Sean Levon Nash of the Burning Wagon Collective, will be on view October 22–November 26, 2006, on the first level of the museum, near the koi pond. Visitors can sit in El Muertorider and listen to ¡radio muerta!

El Muertorider and ¡radio muerta! are part of a larger collaborative work, Imperial Silence, A Xicano New Media Opera, which will have its premiere screening at the museum Sunday, November 19, at 3 p.m.

Imperial Silence: A Xicano New Media Opera is a 20-minute series of animated short films combining mariachi boleros, huapangos, rock-en-español, children’s

rhymes, Chicano blues, and many other tontadas. A lively discussion with artists John Leaños, Sean Levon Nash, and other members of the Burning Wagon Collective follows the screening. The first act of the opera, Los ABCs, was featured at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival.
