The Impact of This Project on the Interns

Sergio- "I think because of my upbringing I didn't do a lot of the things youth do today, like keep late hours, drink, and do heavy partying. When I got this job, I worked around Susan, Tania, and Frank, it kind of shed light on those issues. It's not so clear that they're doing things to do bad. A lot of what it is has to do with is their life chances."

Tania- "I was in gangs and I thought that was the only thing I could do. I tried many times to get involved with the community. I was always rejected because of the way I dressed or my make-up. It made me believe I wasn't able to do good things. When I got involved in this program, at first it was hard to convince adults that teens are a part of the community. With the making of the mural , you can see the community is changing the way it they see teenagers, and that really fills me up inside."

Frank- "When I started to work here, I thought it was going to be a lame job, just a way to make a living. It became a lot more interesting as I began to learn about the types of things around me and about the environment. Jungle Hill is an outlet for kids. Everyone can use this place. It's an urban anchor. People can come here to let off some anger and think about things. It's a great place for people to learn and come to enjoy themselves."
